Climate and Energy

Climate

Every company should prepare for the threats and opportunities posed by climate change. Sooner or later, global warming will have an impact on every industry, making it crucial to identify both the risks and business opportunities in advance, demonstrating climate responsibility and leadership. Nowadays, climate actions are more often driven by legislation, either directly or indirectly. Taking climate actions can be critical for the continuity of operations.

The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) mandates a wide range of companies to report on climate-related information and actions taken. The binding obligations of the directive also indirectly affect companies’ supply chains. Setting emission reduction targets and planning actions at the company, site, or organizational level requires understanding the current state, where determining the carbon footprint plays a crucial role. Carbon footprint, when calculated according to the GHG Protocol, is compliant with CSRD, meets direct and indirect binding obligations, and makes the results of emission calculations comparable.

Once the level of a company’s greenhouse gas emissions is known, an emission reduction target can be set, and emission reduction measures can be effectively and cost-efficiently targeted. If a company is within the scope of CSRD and recognizes climate as a significant theme, a transition plan much more comprehensive than a low-carbon roadmap must be developed to demonstrate actions to mitigate climate change.

With the EU Taxonomy Regulation and CSRD, the management of climate risks and opportunities by interpreting climate scenarios is also becoming more unified, and the results must be presented as part of sustainability reporting.

Support for one’s climate work can be sought, for example, by joining the Science Based Targets initiative. The carbon handprint, in turn, can demonstrate the positive climate impacts of a company’s operations.

Ecobio’s experts help companies from various industries lead their climate work according to requirements and expectations, regardless of their starting point. You can learn more about our climate services through the headings below.

Energy

Energy efficiency, energy use and energy production are significantly linked to both the cost-effectiveness of operations and their climate impacts. Therefore, it is always worth considering energy solutions from both perspectives.

Energy efficiency can be reviewed and managed at the company level, or the review can focus on a specific device or operation. Energy audits or energy management system certification may also involve binding obligations. From a climate perspective, calculating the carbon footprint of operations helps to understand the significance of energy emissions.

As emissions trading tightens and the price of emission allowances rises, there is also a significant incentive to reduce operational emissions.

Ecobio supports companies in company and site-level energy efficiency reviews, including the ISO 50001 energy management system, energy audits, and managing the obligations and specific features of emissions trading.
