Why are nature surveys needed?

Nature surveys identify the natural values of an area, such as breeding and resting sites and habitats of protected and noteworthy species, before a project is implemented. When conducted early and at a sufficient level, the survey ensures legal compliance and smooth project progress without unnecessary delays.

You need a nature survey, for example, when:

  • the project falls under the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) procedure
  • you are planning a zoning or construction project
  • you are applying for a permit (e.g. water permit, environmental permit)
  • the project is located within or near a Natura 2000 area
  • you want to ensure compliance with the Nature Conservation Act and EU directives

Why choose Ecobio for nature surveys?

Ecobio conducts nature surveys thoroughly from the start. This ensures that protected and valuable sites in the project area are identified early, reducing the risk of delays and facilitating cooperation with authorities. A high-quality survey also guarantees that necessary follow-up measures are recognized in time and biodiversity is responsibly taken into account.

How are the nature surveys conducted?

  1. Baseline – collection of existing information
  2. Fieldwork planning – targeting the survey and optimizing timing
  3. Fieldwork – on-site observations in the project area
  4. Analysis and GIS – converting key findings into geospatial data and map visualizations
  5. Reporting – clear, legal-compliant reporting with recommended actions

The main fieldwork season for nature surveys runs from March to September. Different surveys are carried out at different times of the year. The optimal timing depends on species ecology, weather conditions, chosen methods, and geographical location.

A nature survey ordered in time ensures it can be carried out within the current field season. You can, of course, request an offer during the season as well. We deliver surveys quickly, in compliance with authority requirements, and at a competitive price.
